Job Details
Learning and Work Institute is an independent research and development organisation dedicated to promoting lifelong learning, full employment and inclusion.
We're focused on the big questions. How do we help more people find work and build careers in a changing jobs market? How do we help people to be active and engaged citizens? How can more adults develop their skills over their lifetime? And how do we do all of this at a time of constrained public finances?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Policy & Communications to lead our media engagement and external communications, public affairs and government relations, events and campaigns.
You will work with, and lead, a small dedicated team, and need to work collaboratively across the organisation. You'll also need to build relationships across the sectors we work in. The focus of the role is on making a difference and making an impact, in line with our Strategic Plan.
You will need to understand the employment, learning and skills landscape, and the national and local political context for changes in the labour market and learning. You will coordinate communications and policy development work across the organisation. This is a hands-on role and you will be responsible for working with and leading a small team focused on the following:
- Media engagement and external communications;
- Public affairs and Government relations;
- Events and sponsorship; and
- Campaigns, including the annual Festival of Learning
We are striving to extend our impact and influence. We want you to help us do this and ensure our work leads the debate among stakeholders, the political sphere and media.
In return, you'll have the chance to shape, develop and manage a distinct programme of work, and be part of a committed dynamic team that works across the UK and in Europe.
