Job Details

The Britain Israel Communications & Research Centre, BICOM, is a British think tank producing research and analysis to increase understanding of Israel and the Middle East in the UK.

We are looking for an intern to work with our research and communications teams.

Research team
Fathom is a quarterly online journal that provides expert analysis and opinion about Israel and the region, and is produced by the research team.

Interns will learn about the Middle East and gain valuable training in skills related to the production of a journal (research, writing, editing, administration, design, production and general office work). We are looking for independent self-starters who are also able to work with a small team in a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities may include: assisting the editor in producing Fathom, helping to generate content for the website, research, transcribing, proofreading, and procuring graphics and stills, securing reports and documents, updating databases, promoting the journal on social media platforms. Specific responsibilities will depend upon the intern’s skills and interests, and Fathom’s current needs.

Communications team
The team handles all media, web and social media, publications, newsletters and other communications activities at BICOM. Interns will have the opportunity to connect with senior UK journalists, learn about promoting high-level content on social media platforms and pick up skills such as video editing and basic graphic design. They will work closely with the team producing our daily newsletter read by thousands with responsibility for writing content, constructing the newsletter and uploading content to our website.

Responsibilities may include: working with the Communications team to help prepare our daily newsletter, briefing notes in advance of events and meetings; amending media contact lists; media monitoring, analysis and updating and expanding our database. Interns may also be required to help organising and promoting events.

Qualifications
We seek self-motivated individuals with a strong interest in Israel and the Middle East. The position is suitable for graduates seeking to gain experience in political research and media relations.

Details
The internship is full time for six months, to begin in January 2018.

Closing Date: 17 November 2017
