Job Details

This is an 18 month contract to join the RSA’s Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, an ambitious independent inquiry to shape the future of the UK’s food and farming systems as we embark on the process of exiting the EU. The Commission is located in the RSA’s Action and Research Centre, whose aim is to influence policy and practice, blending the best of the think tank with practical actions for sustainable change. It sets out to engage the public in presenting a compelling and legitimate vision for how we can create a food and farming system that works with nature and the environment, produces what society needs, and that contributes to our happiness, health and wellbeing.

You will be a seasoned and confident researcher, with a strong understanding of, and experience in, the food, farming and countryside policy territory. You will have excellent analytical and critical approaches to interpreting evidence, strong written and oral communication skills, confident in your presentation and a good team worker, valuing colleagues’ contributions. You will work well under pressure and demonstrate authority with and inspire confidence in a range of stakeholders.

In this role, you will lead the research portfolio supporting the work of the Commission. Working alongside the other members of the team, in policy, and engagement, you will undertake primary and secondary research and lead the publication of research outputs. You will support the Commission’s Academic Advisory Board, and oversee the research contracts undertaken by our academic partners.

Building on our 250 year history as a beacon for enlightenment values, the RSA is currently at an exciting period in its history. We provide platforms for leading experts through the UK’s most ambitious free public lecture series, our projects generate new models for tackling the social challenges of today, and our network of over 29,000 Fellows around the world is a community committed to progressive and sustainable social change.
