EDF Energy, one of the UK’s largest energy companies and the largest producer of low-carbon electricity, is looking for an external communications manager based at our head office in London with experience working on high profile consumer issues. The role will be responsible for delivering the public affairs and stakeholder engagement programme for the customer business at EDF Energy. A varied role covering interesting, high-profile topics and campaigns.

Principal Accountabilities
• Assisting in delivering the strategic external communications plan for the business unit
• Provide guidance on external communications issues, focus on political and stakeholder activity, identifying risks and pro-actively protecting the EDF reputation
• Support the delivery of EDF’s public affairs strategy with a focus on customers’ parliamentary and legislative issues
• Deliver effective stakeholder engagement and speaker programmes for senior executives, proactively highlighting opportunities
• Regular communication with customer site MPs
• Represent the company at events including party political conferences and relevant parliamentary groups e.g. Fuel Poverty, Debt
• Ensure timely responses to MP enquiries and media enquiries
• Effective management of retained agencies, developing strong working relationships
• Promote the integration of social media within all external communications activity
• Participation in the out of hours duty press office rota, providing 24-hour on-call assistance, occasional travel to EDF Energy offices and sites may be required

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
• Public affairs experience with a network of political contacts
• Good understanding of UK media and media relations experience
• Success in managing public affairs activities and events for a complex organisation
• Able to communicate complex topics to a wide audience
• Good influencing skills and experience working on consumer issues
• Interest in UK politics and knowledge of the UK political process
• Able to work under pressure, manage fast moving issues and deliver to tight deadlines
• Commission and publish content on media and digital channels
