Job Details

The role of the Private Office Business Manager is an exciting opportunity to work with the most senior leaders at the ICO, providing them with support and making sure they are informed, prepared and able to make decisions across the complex and diverse work of the organisation.

To fulfil the role, and in order to deliver outstanding customer service, you will have excellent business management experience, and be able to demonstrate your skills in running a support function with clear processes and responsibilities. You will have significant freedom to act, and you will be able to make decisions regarding correspondence, engagements, logistics and agendas. Professional judgement, in particular when dealing with requests for meetings, correspondence and supporting senior leaders when they are not available or out of the office is a must.

You will need to be comfortable in dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity, as priorities will change rapidly and you will have to use your experience and skills when making decisions on complex or sensitive issues. Dealing with external stakeholders and responding to enquiries on behalf of senior leaders is a key part of the role. You will also get the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the ICO including the non-executive directors, department heads and group managers, and you will need to build an excellent internal network.

You will also get to use and develop your project management skills by leading significant, ICO wide projects such as the delivery of the Annual Report. Of course, you will also be managing the Private Office and the Corporate Governance teams. This will include setting the strategy for these areas, and developing policies, process and resources to deliver this strategy. You will have line management responsibilities and will be required to set objectives, motivate the team and set goals in order to deliver exceptional service to the most senior leaders in the organisation.

Please note that post holders for this role will be required to receive security clearance to SC level. This requires the disclosure of spent and unspent convictions. Although convictions will be taken into account, any such information will not necessarily prevent you from obtaining a security clearance.
