Rachel Reeves is looking for an enthusiastic Constituency Assistant to join her team in her office in Bramley, Leeds.

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a small team to support the MP in her work across Leeds West. Training and development opportunities will be available.

Key responsibilities:

• Identify and research key local issues, monitoring their developments and organising associated events around the constituency
• Lead on local campaigns within Leeds West
• Build relationships with key local stakeholders and organisations across Leeds West and the region
• Maintaining a strong social media and digital presence in the constituency - including following up on comments and managing website content
• Arrange and publicise local public engagement events and surgeries when necessary
• Assist with managing local press - including drafting comments, quotes and dealing with day to day local activity
• Attending surgeries and other meetings as appropriate
• Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving casework
• Dealing with queries from members of the public and drafting responses to constituents
• Responding to a range of enquiries by telephone, email and social media
• Maintain a high level of office organisation including photocopying, filing, retaining records and information confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act

Necessary skills:

• Exceptionally high attention to detail and taking pride in making sure all aspects of the role are carried out to the highest standard
• The ability to multi-task under pressure - to sometimes exceptionally tight deadlines - and the ability to prioritise workload accordingly is critical
• To be able to work with diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality
• To be able to work as part of a team as well as unsupervised
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across key mediums - including web content, newsletters and press releases
• IT competency in key programmes such as Microsoft Office - experience of constructing local newsletters/information sheets is desirable, but not essential
• The ability to work flexibly and at weekends and evenings - sometimes at very short notice
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
• Driving licence and use of a car (desirable)
