The CCSA is seeking a highly-motivated Policy Officer to help support the policy and communications activities of the Association.

The CCSA exists to represent the interests of a wide-variety of organisations with an interest in the development and deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). On a day-to-day basis the Policy Officer will help to meet the needs of CCSA members by assisting in the preparation of CCSA reports and promotional materials, providing support to CCSA Working Groups and assisting in the organisation of meetings and events.

The Policy Officer will be comfortable working to tight deadlines and able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have some prior experience of policy or research-related activities within the energy or environmental sectors and a keen interest in the politics of tackling climate change. In addition to CCSA responsibilities, the Policy Officer will also be responsible for supporting the secretariat services to the European Zero Emission Technology and Innovation Platform (ZEP). The Policy Officer will report directly to the Policy Manager of the organisation.

Please note, the position advertised is a 6 month fixed-term contract, with the expectation that this would be extended.

Essential criteria

  • A relevant undergraduate degree in an area such as earth science, engineering, politics, or economics.
  • A basic understanding of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies and their importance in tackling climate change.
  • A proven ability to research and critically analyse scientific and political content.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, including ability to manage own workload and to work to a range of deadlines.
  • Competent in the use of IT applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel within Europe.
  • Permission to work in the UK.

Desirable criteria

  • A post-graduate qualification, such as a Masters Degree, in a related discipline.
  • Previous experience of working in energy and climate change or in a political environment, e.g. through an internship or structured work experience.
  • An understanding of EU and UK policy making processes.
