The Legatum Institute is looking for a researcher to undertake in-depth analysis on international affairs with a specific focus on India and China. This is a full-time role and requires someone with an eye for detail, an interest in the growth and development of India and China, and a professional writing style. The post-holder will undertake research that illuminates the development paths of India and China examining both the history and the future trajectory of both countries.

The Role

  • Conduct high-quality research that focusses on the political, economic, and social development of India and China;
  • Undertake research into wider topics including demographic trends, globalisation, and the geopolitics of the East vs the West;
  • Work closely with contacts and supporters (both internal and external) to identify and understand the needs of the programme and to position the programme for maximum impact;
  • Assist in the development and deployment of research methods and techniques that can help the programme to achieve its goals;
  • Provide a range of high-quality written output – including drafting policy documents, articles, and proposals – for internal and external audiences.

Skills & Experience  

  • Experience in a similar role;
  • Experience working on issues linked to India, China, and the economic development of nations;
  • Proven ability to write well and to communicate difficult concepts to different audiences;
  • Self-motivation and initiative, with a capacity to achieve high quality outcomes at a significant pace;
  • A good grasp of research techniques and the ability to extract key concepts and ideas from technocratic policy documents;
  • The ability to engage with stakeholders including VIPs, politicians, and donors.

  • Highly self-motivated, with a positive and proactive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Professional and with the ability to establish rapport easily
  • Good judgment about when to use initiative and when to consult
  • Tenacious and resilient; able to propel activity forward and share in collective success
