The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is looking to recruit an articulate, efficient and highly motivated individual with legal training to join its complaints-handling team, and manage claims received by its arbitration scheme. IPSO is the self-regulatory body for the newspaper and magazine industries in the UK.

IPSO has recently launched a low-cost arbitration scheme, offering access to justice for those seeking to bring claims against newspaper and magazines which are members of the scheme. Having successfully set up the scheme, we are now looking for an individual with legal training to administer it. This will be combined with work on complaints made to IPSO under the Editors’ Code of Practice. 

This is an exciting role, which will allow the successful candidate to develop expertise in two of IPSO’s key functions.

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, having achieved at least a 2:1 degree, preferably in law or a related discipline (or having been educated to an equivalent standard). An intelligent interest in the press and its self-regulation is essential and experience of handling complaints, preparing analysis of complex information, or dealing sensitively with members of the public in a professional capacity would be an advantage.
