The FBU is the voice of firefighters in the UK, representing the uniformed front-line staff of the fire and rescue services. The FBU is the only recognised trade union negotiating nationally with employers on behalf of firefighters and emergency fire control staff. FBU is supporting our members through challenging times of public sector spending cuts and intense public and media interest in fire service provision.

We are looking to recruit a Research & Policy Officer to support the General Secretary, National Officers and the Head of Research and Policy.

The Research and Policy Officer will support the formulation of FBU policy direction at a research level, as well as supporting elected officials with meetings and presentations. You will also provide the Communications team with information as and when required. You will provide policy analysis, brief colleagues, draft responses to public policy consultations and identify sources of research evidence to support policy development.

We are looking for a motivated individual, with a background in research and public policy. You will have a passion for the fire and rescue service and a commitment to trade unionism. The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and build alliances is critical. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, as well as a clear ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
