Job Details
- First point of contact dealing with all queries from members of the public; providing information, advice and support to constituents on a broad range of issues and taking the appropriate initial action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries
- Drafting of letters and correspondence in response to constituents’ enquiries and ensuring a well-documented flow of correspondence is managed and tracked
- Drafting of letters to senior members of organisations, companies, local authorities and government departments
- Accompanying the Member to surgeries and local meetings when required
- Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
- Reporting back to the Member regularly on progress and seeking help when needed
- Researching local, regional or national issues to support Member’s work
- Manning the regional office including helping “walk-ins” who are seeking assistance from the Member and other general administrative functions in the office
- Undertaking any other reasonable and appropriate duties as required
Essential skills/experience:
- Patience, empathy and a genuine desire to help people with a wide variety of personal problems is the number one skill of this role
- Strong written, communication and analytical skills with attention to detail – incl. grammar, spelling and tone of correspondence. Excellent command of written English is required to produce high quality correspondence, representing the Member in letters and emails
- Experience of or ability to use a database/CRM software to track casework and monitor progress
- Highly organised with the ability to manage and prioritise own caseload
- A good telephone manner and ability to accurately record all information necessary to progress cases
- A strong work ethic, reliability and a flexible approach as part of our small team
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- Awareness of central, devolved and local government structures
- An understanding of Scottish politics and the political landscape
- A commitment to supporting Liam Kerr in pursuing his values and aspirations, and those of the Scottish Parliament
Desired Qualities:
- Previous experience working for an elected member
- Experience of handling casework
- Full, clean drivers licence
