The CIPD have an opportunity for a talented individual to join our energetic and busy Public Affairs team as the Public Affairs Manager. You’ll lead the team to maximise the external profile of the CIPD, managing engagement activities to influence key stakeholders concerned with the world of work, including policy makers, politicians, civil servants, business leaders, key senior CIPD members, academics, think tanks, charities and employees.

You’ll need to have excellent knowledge of UK politics and Parliament, possess an interest in the policy landscape affecting the world of work and a sound business antennae to spot opportunities for the organisation. In addition, you’ll need to be highly organised and able to manage a diverse workload, completing projects to strict deadlines. The ability to build relationships with stakeholders (both internally and externally) is fundamental to this role and a confident manner is essential as is the need for outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Key accountability areas include:

  • Leading the Public Affairs engagement strategy and taking responsibility with other senior colleagues for reputational positioning
  • Directly influencing Government and Policy Makers
  • Growing the CIPD’s convening capacity with members and employer stakeholders
  • Raising our voice with policy professionals, media and the public regarding the world of work
  • Formulating policy campaigns in line with company strategic objectives
  • Leading and Managing an in-house Public Affairs team
