Bill Esterson MP is the Shadow Minister for Business and International Trade. He is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to assist with his front bench parliamentary responsibilities.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of Mr Esterson’s shadow ministerial responsibilities in Parliament as well as supporting key areas of interest to the Sefton Central constituency. They will also have to demonstrate a working knowledge and experience of the media, including social media in a political context, including how to develop good working relationships with media outlets.
You will need to be a Team player and also be prepared to assist with general office tasks and duties in response to providing a high quality response to the constituents of Sefton Central.


Key Roles and responsibilities:
• Advise Mr Esterson on Policy issues
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Mr Esterson is accurately informed on key issues
• Lead on Project work as required
• Monitor Media Coverage and brief Mr Esterson accordingly
• Prepare notes for parliamentary speeches, questions, articles and press releases
• Progress case work as required
• Research local, regional or national issues to support Mr Esterson’s work
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Undertake research on complex and/or difficult subjects
• Publicise duties on social media
• Brief national and regional media on parliamentary work


Desirable skills:
• Prior experience of working in Parliament and in an MP’s office
• Strong political knowledge, understanding and judgment
• Good organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to work independently, show initiative and work well as part of a wider team, demonstrating a positive and flexible attitude
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficient use of Microsoft office including Word and Outlook
