The Centre for the Response to Radicalisation and Terrorism at The Henry Jackson Society provides top-quality, in-depth research and delivers targeted, tangible and impactful activities to combat the threats from extremism – from both the Far Right and Islamism – and terrorism at home and abroad.
This role will form a critical part in our Centre for the Response to Radicalisation and Terrorism. The successful candidate must have a background in combatting extremist ideologies through research, policy recommendations, and engagement with stakeholders. S/he will have a high degree of strategic vision and political awareness, as well as experience of community engagement and excellent communication skills.
Along with terrorism and radicalisation, CRT are interested in researchers pursuing studies in violence, war and conflict, law, mental health and psychology, crime and radicalisation, and human rights.
The ideal candidate will:
• Have a familiarity and strong interest in current events and trends related to terrorism and extremism in the UK and abroad, including terrorism legislation;
• Possess a clear, analytical, and logical writing style;
• Be hard-working and motivated with exacting attention to detail;
• Have completed a master’s degree in the field;
• Be fluent in Arabic, Urdu, Pashto, Farsi, or another regional language.
This is an exciting opportunity to serve an integral role in a leading research centre countering extremism and terrorism.
Key Duties
1) To review existing evidence on terrorism and extremism, foster policy development, and publish regular research products.
2) To build on an existing working knowledge of terrorism, extremism, policing, and criminal justice policies.
3) To conceptualise, plan and execute a series of research projects over the course of each year, complete with budgeting requirements and deliverables.
4) To proof and edit research output.
5) To assist with the fundraising process for CRT in association with colleagues.
6) To engage in public speaking and media commentating.
7) To serve as a key team player in a high-paced environment.
Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of CRT, Director of Research, Deputy Director, Executive Director, or others as appropriate.
