Job Details

Who we are
The Patients Association is one of the oldest and most distinctive health and care charities in the UK. Our remit is not condition or organ-specific, but covers all issues that affect patients – and in the modern world, this of necessity includes social care and public health.

We work with patients directly: they are our members and supporters, and also the people who benefit from our help and advice services. We also speak to government, the NHS and others about patients' priorities and concerns, to ensure the patient voice is heard and acted upon.

With the arrival of a new Chief Executive in 2017 and the launch of a new three-year strategy at the start of 2018, the Patients Association is embarking on an exciting period of change and growth. We intend to increase the scope and quality of the impact we make for patients, and work towards a world where health and social care is delivered in a way that meets every person’s needs.

The role
This is a newly created and wide-ranging role, with a lot of responsibility and scope. As part of the small Policy and Communications team, the Communications and Marketing Manager will have the opportunity to lead and develop a communications and marketing function for a high profile national organisation. It will require a broad range of skills, from bread-and-butter writing and public relations, including communicating internally and externally through a range of channels, to project delivery and strategic horizon scanning.

The successful candidate
The successful candidate will be able to point to a successful track record in communications and marketing across diverse channels. They will bring both a sound understanding of good practice and an ability to deploy it in creative and imaginative work. Experience in a voluntary sector and / or campaigning organisation will be a definite plus. Knowledge of health and social care issues is an advantage but not essential.

The role requires strong ability in respect of self-motivation, time management and prioritisation of work. Excellent writing skills and attention to detail are a must.
