Job Details

Commonweal Housing is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join their growing team. Working at the heart of an exciting housing charity, the role of Communications Assistant is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to strengthen their experience in generating communications content for different platforms and audiences.

Full-time post - Fixed Term Contract to 31st May 2019

Commonweal is an action learning charity which uses housing based pilot projects to tackle social injustices. We provide the bespoke housing for their projects. Since 2007 we have allocated approaching £10million for such projects.

Working with specialist partners to define, provide and evaluate services, we pride ourselves on providing partners with the space and opportunity to find possible housing based solutions to social injustices. We then promote what is successful to enable others to replicate solutions elsewhere.

As Communications Assistant, working with the Policy & Communications Manager you will help deliver our message especially helping to grow the social media impact as well as writing copy for our website and supporting wider communications activities.

You will need to have a good understanding of the public policy and political environment and its current and potential implications for Commonweal.

You will possess experience of working in a communications or PR environment, with strong written skills and design skills along with demonstrable knowledge of a range of communication channels (including print, broadcast and online media).

Familiarity or experience of the charity/not for profit sector, for example volunteering or campaigning and experience of the housing/homelessness sector would be great but is not essential. More important will be your enthusiasm, high levels of self-motivation, including the ability to use one’s time effectively. Flexibility and the ability to embrace change, including changing service demands, as well as ensuring tasks are completed satisfactorily is vital.
