Bright Blue is an independent think tank and pressure group for liberal conservatism. We are looking for a Head of Communications to join this ambitious, fast-growing organisation.

The successful candidate will become a senior member of the team, devising and promoting our work across Bright Blue’s five core research areas: social reform; integrated Britain; energy and the environment; ageing Britain; and human rights and discrimination.

Our Head of Communications will have the following responsibilities:

Communications

  • Managing our press office
  • Generating and securing opportunities for Bright Blue to be regularly represented in newspapers and magazines, or on TV and radio
  • Framing and promoting Bright Blue’s arguments and policies for our reports, articles and public appearances
  • Representing Bright Blue in the media and at events, and becoming a recognised figure in the world of public policy
  • Writing regular opinion articles and blogs on key policy areas
  • Editing our quarterly magazine, Centre Write
  • Managing all of Bright Blue’s online and social media activity

External affairs

  • Engaging with key stakeholders such as civil servants, special advisers, academics, journalists and politicians
  • Devising and organising a variety of Bright Blue events, including roundtable discussions and keynote speeches with high-profile decision-makers and opinion formers
  • Attending and representing Bright Blue at roundtable discussions and public events
  • Building a network of influential opinion formers and decision makers to contribute to and promote our work
  • Supporting Bright Blue’s fundraising efforts

Internal

  • Managing staff members and associate fellows
  • Contributing to the intellectual capital of the organisation 

Person specification

  • A belief in Bright Blue’s core values
  • Significant experience working in or with national newspapers and broadcast media
  • Proven management experience
  • A strong background in and knowledge of centre-right politics and public policy
  • Experience of commissioning and editing public policy content
  • Excellent writing ability, creative thinking and interpersonal skills
