As Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor you will play a key role in supporting Save the Children’s global campaign to end child marriage and our advocacy to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its pledge to leave no one behind. You will also help to define and shape the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Division’s strategy and approach on gender equality and girls’ empowerment as we move into our new strategic period from 2019. You will also:

• Influence the policy and practice of key UK and international stakeholders on issues related to gender equality and girls’ empowerment, with an initial focus on supporting the global campaign on child, early and forced marriage and our advocacy on the Sustainable Development Goals
• Represent SCUK externally on gender equality and girls’ empowerment, and build relationships with strategic partners
• Conduct or commission world class research and policy development to support advocacy and position Save the Children as a thought leader on girls’ rights and empowerment
• Represent the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Division within SCUK’s Gender Hub, to ensure coordination and collaboration across departments and to support the implementation of the organisational Gender Equality Policy.

To be successful you will have a post-graduate qualification in Gender and Development, Gender Studies or a relevant field with experience of working on gender equality issues, ideally in an international organisation. Strong analytical and advisory skills are essential, as are strong networking, relationship management and influencing skills. You will have:

• Expertise in gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment, including excellent knowledge of key trends and policy debates on these issues in the international development sector
• Proven ability to think and plan strategically, with a track record of success in identifying and engaging with key stakeholders to influence change in policy and practice
• The ability to persuade, negotiate with and influence high level stakeholders internally and externally to achieve objectives
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills at a level appropriate for high level external representation and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
