Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP is seeking to recruit a Parliamentary Research Assistant to join his small team based in Westminster starting June 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated graduate to develop his or her political experience whilst making a significant contribution to the team's operation.
Key responsibilities
• Drafting responses to correspondence on national policy issues
• Assisting with case work
• Liaising with government agencies, local authorities and third party organisations
• Providing briefing papers ahead of meetings/events/speeches
• Monitoring and actively managing local issues/campaigns
• Attending meetings with or on behalf of MP as required
• Drafting material for local media
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Strong political awareness and understanding of the British political system
• Excellent written and interpersonal skills
• An ability to undertake detailed research
• A self-starter who is also a team-player
• Enthusiasm for local as well as national politics
• A strong academic record with an attention to detail
• Experience of working with members of the public
• Must be willing and able to travel regularly to the constituency
• Must be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
