We’re looking for a well-organised, pro-active individual with communications and research experience gained in a paid or voluntary capacity to join our Public Affairs team as a Public Affairs Assistant and play a vital support role.

Public Affairs sits within our Communications, Policy and Campaigns division that leads all of our public campaigning, media relations, political influencing and research and policy development. The team’s remit is to achieve political change and build relationships across the political and policy world to help Shelter achieve our goals: an end to bad housing and homelessness.

About the role
As Public Affairs Assistant you will help manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, especially political and policy audiences and elite influencers. In addition you will, maintain and continually improve our processes and embrace the challenge of helping to make Shelter’s issues a major political priority. Keeping stakeholder information and data up-to-date and providing the team with insight, intelligence and communications on any policy developments through ad-hoc monitoring and weekly summaries will also be key. We’ll also rely on you to help organise, plan, co-ordinate and deliver events and contribute directly to campaigns.

About you
With a passion for Shelter’s issues, some relevant experience and a proven ability to gather data and carry out research and analysis in a professional, academic or voluntary capacity, you will have excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly and excel under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. We’ll also be looking for the communication skills it takes to interact effectively with colleagues and stakeholders and the enthusiasm and imagination to use your research skills to develop invaluable insights. Results-driven with a commercial awareness, customer focused approach and lots of creativity, you will possess a willingness to challenge the status quo, introduce new ideas, lead change and improve performance.
