Age UK are looking to recruit a Public Affairs Officer to deliver a range of high quality, imaginative and targeted Government and parliamentary activities to ensure issues relating to and affecting older people are high on the political agenda.

Age UK’s vision is to make the UK a great place to grow older, but sadly this isn’t the case for many of today’s older people. We actively promote the interests of people in later life to Government and politicians from across the political spectrum.

Main Duties:

  • To manage political communications with parliamentarians and their staff, political parties, older people and older people’s organisations thorough a variety of communications channels.
  • To respond to requests from parliamentarians and liaise with their offices. To represent the organisation at external meetings or conferences with parliamentarians and other audiences.
  • To produce political copy with impact, communicating Age UK’s priority influencing issues to MPs and Peers by producing briefing papers and initiating face to face meetings with individuals and groups.
  • Design and manage the delivery of events and other activities to promote the organisation’s work to parliamentarians, politicians and other decision-makers.dentify opportunities for promoting the organisation’s work to parliamentary audiences.

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a political or parliamentary setting.
  • Knowledge of project managing parliamentary or political work.
  • Experience of disseminating complex issues to a wide range of audiences.
  • Writing briefings and other materials to communicate with external audiences
  • Researching, analysing and communicating complex political and policy issues

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of parliamentary procedures and political process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • I.T. literate with experience of setting up and managing systems.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and balance conflicting demands.

Additional Information:

  • Attendance of political events may be required from time to time – many of which take place during unsociable hours. Attendance at party political conferences is expected.
