Job Details

Transform the way we engage decision-makers so we can transform public policy

Engineering affects every aspect of our lives, through Artificial Intelligence, smarter infrastructure, clean energy or engineering in the life sciences, and engineers have something valuable to say on all the big social and economic issues facing our country.

As the UK’s national academy for engineering, we bring together the profession’s finest minds to promote excellence and champion innovation. We are currently working with partners across the profession to establish a new Engineering Policy Centre which will create a step change in the profession’s influence on public policy.

The Centre will transform the way we identify, conduct and deliver policy projects, engage with policymakers and industry stakeholders, and build the capacity of the engineering sector. You will play a big role in making that happen: shaping its implementation, planning and co-ordinating activity, identifying and mitigating risks, building relationships and driving activity.

At the same time, you will take direct ownership of some far-reaching projects, creating a programme to connect engineers and policymakers; hosting high-profile policy breakfasts, dinners and events to bring engineers, industrialists and policymakers together around issues and ideas; overseeing a programme of training and better information sharing to enhance the sector’s capacity to engage in policy activity; and driving the early operations of the centre – so we require an exceptional professional.

Of graduate calibre, you will bring proven ability to manage people, programmes and budgets, good understanding of event management – and demonstrable ability to make things happen. If you’re experienced within research, engineering, higher education or a related area, so much the better, and a formal project management qualification would also be very useful. However, it’s your drive, determination, people skills and focus on results that will matter most, as you go the extra mile every day to bring our vision to life – and significantly strengthen our influence and outreach.
