Job Details
Help us shape policy to sharpen Britain’s innovative edge
Engineering affects every aspect of our lives, through Artificial Intelligence, smarter infrastructure, clean energy or engineering in the life sciences, and engineers have something valuable to say on all the big social and economic issues facing our country.
As the UK’s national academy for engineering, we bring together the profession’s finest minds to promote excellence and champion innovation. We are currently working with partners across the profession to establish a new Engineering Policy Centre which will create a step change in the profession’s influence on public policy.
The Centre will transform the way we identify, conduct and deliver policy projects, engage with policymakers and industry stakeholders, and build the capacity of the engineering sector. You will operate at its heart, developing and delivering policy advice on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, to have a real impact on important policy issues. You will enjoy regular interaction with senior stakeholders in academia, industry and government, while going the extra mile to build our public profile.
Educated to degree level with sound experience of influencing policy, you should bring experience of research and analysis, and be well versed in the innovation landscape. You will be interested in engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship, familiar with parliamentary processes, and capable of building productive and respectful relationships with thought leaders. Some awareness of the UK engineering sector would naturally be advantageous, but we will value your initiative, vision and motivation above all. Finally, you should be a true self-starter - it’s your initiative, drive and determination to advance the UK’s performance in engineering and technology innovation that will matter most.
The Royal Academy of Engineering is an equal opportunity employer and values the diversity and different perspectives that people from diverse backgrounds bring to their work. It is the Academy's policy to ensure that no job applicant or employee is disadvantaged or receives less favourable treatment because of age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, gender or sexual orientation.
