Job Title: Foreign Affairs Assistant to Member of the European Parliament

Salary: annual net pay starting at the European Parliament’s grade 7 €32,964 to grade 10 € 38,508 + allowances (dependent on experience)

Job Details
The successful applicant will mainly assist the MEP in her capacity as a member of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee and of various Parliamentary Delegations for Relations with Third Countries and Organisations. They will also be asked to contribute to work on other policy areas when required. Key tasks will include:
- Researching and drafting briefings, speeches and amendments on a variety of topics, mainly related to global foreign policy developments
- Drafting written questions to the Council, Commission and HRVP on topics of relevance to the MEP's parliamentary work and her constituency
- Preparing for and following up on plenary sessions
- Preparing for and following up on meetings of the S&D Group
- Providing assistance in preparation of and during negotiations
- Contributing to press work and social media
- Contributing to general office management and carrying out occasional administrative tasks
Essential:
- Native English speaking and writing capabilities
- Solid knowledge of the EU
- Strong drafting and research skills
- Meticulous and strong organisational skills
- A high degree of self-sufficiency and the ability to function as part of a team
- Strong affinity with Labour Party and EU values
Desirable:
- Prior experience working in politics or a field related to foreign affairs
- French language skills

Interview/Start Dates
Interviews will take place in Brussels and the UK. They will include a 30-minute interview and a written test.
Start date: Ideally 1 July. Open to negotiation.
