Job Details

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are offering talented graduates the chance to start their careers in local government through our Graduate Development Programme.

This is an exciting time to join the councils, who have recently launched a Shared Staffing Arrangement (SSA). The SSA is a single staff team serving two sovereign Councils and over half a million Londoners, providing the highest quality of service whilst delivering the best value for money.

We are looking to recruit adaptable and enthusiastic individuals with a commitment to public service to take part in a wide range of projects, placements and development activities. Your two-year programme will see you undertake four assignments, spanning the work and functions of local government, giving you chance to have a real impact on the effectiveness of public services.

We will support your development with training and regular meetings with a senior supervisor as well as access to a mentor. There will also be opportunities to shadow directors and managers, attend meetings with local councillors to understand the political context and participation in London wide and national events.

Each placement will challenge you, develop your skills and deepen your understanding of local government.

In return, we offer a starting of £24,174 per annum plus performance related pay and 31 days’ annual leave. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to proceed to higher salary grade in their second year (subject to meeting the requirements). Further benefits include eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme and local staff discounts on products and services such as fitness membership, healthcare membership and restaurants.

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are committed to making our recruitment practices as inclusive as possible for everyone. We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and developing a culture that values differences, recognising that employees from a variety of backgrounds bring important and positive contributions to the Councils and can improve the way we deliver services.
