The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) are currently seeking a high level Private Secretary to partner with and support our newly appointed Chair. With the rapid expansion of the CMA and the imminent appointment of the new Chair, it’s an ideal and exciting time to be joining the Chair's Private Office.

Working with the Director of Governance and Performance, the Private Secretary will provide high level support to the CMA Chair, supporting them to fulfil their duties in providing the effective leadership and strategic direction needed to form a cohesive and focused Board. The Private Secretary will oversee the provision of accurate and timely advice and briefings to the Chair, following up progress, where necessary, whilst overseeing the day-to-day running of the Chair’s office, including line managing the Chair's Personal Assistant.

The Private Secretary will also be required to write letters, speeches and presentations for the Chair and lead on the development of the Board, any day-to-day support requirements and cross-organisational strategic projects on the request of the Chair or of the CEO.

The successful incumbent must be able to evidence:

  • Demonstrable experience working with Executive Leaders to ensure that high-quality support is provided, by quality assuring board papers, preparing of agendas, minutes and other papers, forecasting future requirement’s and ensuring that decisions and actions are accurately captured and tracked through to completion.
  • Strong experience in assimilating complex information, including legal and economic analysis with the ability to translate this into comprehensive briefings for various audiences.
  • Strong experience in using communication skills and varying styles to influence senior stakeholders, with experience in writing letters, speeches and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Proven ability to use initiative and work under pressure, at pace, with a track record of planning and managing your own and others work effectively and autonomously.
  • Proven experience in directing, coordinating and representing senior staff in decision making and advisory matters, thinking strategically with an ability to take a wide view when making decisions with experience in progressing actions on behalf of senior stakeholders while successfully adapting to competing priorities.
