Job Details

Be where the biggest decisions in policing are made

Ready to play your part in national policing decisions? As Strategic Planning & Risk Manager, you’ll support the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), which brings together UK police forces to help co-ordinate operations. You’ll work directly with Chief Officers at the heart of the organisation, helping to shape plans in a wide variety of areas.

The NPCC’s remit covers all areas of policing, from digital transformation and knife crime, to protecting vulnerable people. Your task is to co-ordinate these plans by working closely with Chief Officers. You’ll also oversee risk management for the NPCC, and ensure it fulfils its role on behalf of the Chair. The NPCC is tasked with achieving reform, improving policing and ensuring it provides value for money. It must also operate in line with the expectations of its members – and you’ll see that it does just that.

Day to day, you’ll be tackling everything from budget and risk management, to tracking the implementation of regulatory and select committee recommendations. That means you need the organisational skills for a varied role that involves multiple projects.

You also need substantial experience of strategy development, process design and business planning, plus an understanding of corporate governance. A Policing or public sector background would be ideal, but isn’t essential. More important is the ability to plan, design and implement a risk management process for large organisations. And that means you’ll need exceptional communication skills to deal with all involved. If you can bring experience of financial management, business planning, and budgetary control too, there could be a place for you in a significant role.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
