The role of the Knowledge Team

The Knowledge team at Prostate Cancer UK is critical to developing the robust evidence base that underpins our work to drive improvements for men with or at risk of prostate cancer. The team is relied upon to identify, analyse, interpret and explain health data sources and statistical data from clinical trials. They ensure we have a detailed epidemiological understanding of the incidence and distribution of the disease, while providing comprehensive details about the implications of clinical research. Their activity feeds into major decisions about the specific improvements and changes that men need, the numbers of men that should benefit and where we target our resources to have most impact.

The Knowledge Officer

You will contribute to the analytical work of the Knowledge team providing high quality data sourcing and analysis. To do this you will have good analytical skills across quantitative and qualitative data, including an understanding of statistical techniques for interpreting data sets. You also have a good of knowledge of health data sets and a strong grasp of data analysis software, such as Excel and SPSS.

Equally important is the role you’ll play supporting other teams to evidence the activities they undertake to achieve change for men with prostate cancer. You’ll also provide them with the data they need to make the case for change, have a role to play in ensuring our policy positions are evidence-led and regularly respond to evidence requests from our clinical and media teams, other organisations and men. This means you’ll need an understanding of how data and clinical evidence can be used to inform policy and practice. You’ll also have a good knowledge of journal databases and ability to carry out literature reviews.
