Job Details

Gavin Shuker’s Summer School has been the training ground for more than 100 young people to get direct experience of politics, public service and campaigning.

24 selected individuals, each aged between 18 and 24, develop key skills for future involvement in politics and community based work. There will also be opportunities to meet high profile figures from within the Labour and Co-operative Parties.

The programme runs for four weeks over late July and early August each year.
The first week consists of intensive training: a visit to Parliament and a three day residential course in Milton Keynes. The remaining three weeks are be based in Luton, team working, doing project outreach work in the community.

Organisations which have been involved in previous years include local charities LAMP, Rett UK, Mind, Age Concern and London Road Resource Centre.

All candidates must be aged 18-24 and available for every weekday (Monday to Friday) for the duration of the scheme. Previous experience in campaigning or community outreach may help your application but is not essential.

There is no cost to participants, although you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation and food if not resident in Luton. Most meals and all accommodation during the first-week residential course are covered.

For those applying who require accommodation, we may be able to help you arrange this with the University of Bedfordshire. Please contact us for details.

You do not have to be a member of the Labour Party to participate.
