Job Details

You will be joining our busy PR & Celebrity team and play a key and vital role in raising the profile of our scientific research, policy and campaigning activity and public health information. This will be achieved through a combination of reactive and proactive media relations and as part of the team that generates almost daily national media coverage in the papers, online and on TV and radio.

Importantly you will help to ensure that the realities of breast cancer and the key issues affecting patients, including access to treatments, remain high on the national agenda. You will produce succinct written materials to a very high standard and occasionally to short deadlines. This will be from press releases to broadcast briefings for our spokespeople up to CEO level, as well as developing and implementing media strategies. Monitoring and evaluating our PR activity, you will also participate in the team’s out-of-hours on call rota and support with team admin where required.

About you

You will have significant experience in health and science PR, including drafting strong evidence-based press releases and securing major national coverage in the complex arenas of scientific research or health policy. Additionally, you will be experienced in developing and implementing impactful PR plans and responding to a range of press enquiries. You will demonstrate experience in dealing and meeting the needs of the national media on a daily basis, including print, broadcast and online journalists.

An excellent all-round communicator, your inter-personal skills will enable you to brief and prepare spokespeople for media interviews and to help organise media events, for example photo calls, briefings and press conferences. Again, these skills will also allow you to easily build relationships with key national health and science journalists and regional and trade media and be responsible for looking after established case studies and recruiting new ones.

You will be an exceptional writer with a keen eye for a news angle and a passion for ensuring responsible reporting. However, and most importantly, you will be absolutely dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and people at risk of the disease, with a passion for the role of communications in driving change and increasing awareness.
