A number of exciting opportunities have arisen to support the parliamentary work of the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Group in the position of Policy and Research Officer.

Joining a highly motivated team and reporting to the Head of Policy, you will make a significant contribution to the development of policy and strategy for the Scottish Labour parliamentary group. One of the roles will focus, in particular, on the Economy and Finance portfolios.

You will work in a fast moving and constantly changing political environment, where no two days are the same; often being required to act at short notice, and to tight timescales, to respond to developing issues. You will be required to keep pace with developments, both within and out with the Parliament, and to develop responses, based on sound research, for the Parliamentary Group.

These are challenging but rewarding positions, working as part of a supportive and inclusive team, in which you will require to exercise excellent judgement and to promptly produce position papers and policy briefings which give sound advice and guidance based on high quality research.

Key requirements of the roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Working in a fast moving and changing political environment, responding at short notice to tight timescales,
  • Multi-tasking while maintaining your focus on producing high quality policy and research output that meets the needs of the Scottish Labour parliamentary group,
  • Developing rapid, accurate and detailed policy and research and associated political responses to a wide range of devolved policy issues for the parliamentary group,
  • Proactively engaging/liaising with internal and external organisations/expertise to inform the development of policy and research,
  • Liaising with MSPs in the Scottish Labour parliamentary group in support of Group work,
  • Working in a flexible and confidential manner at all times and as part of the team in support of the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Group.
