DCMS is the sponsor department for the BBC, and the BBC sponsorship team is responsible for managing the government’s relationship with the BBC. You will be responsible for defending the BBC’s independence and championing its interests in the context of wider broadcasting media policy and other government priorities in DCMS and across Whitehall.
You will have a number of wide-ranging responsibilities such as implementing the BBC’s licence fee settlement, and monitoring the implementation of the objectives and reforms established in the BBC’s new Royal Charter. You will also play a key role in overseeing the BBC’s relationship with Ofcom, the communications regulator.
More broadly beyond the BBC, you will also lead on minority language broadcasting policy which includes managing the government’s sponsorship relationship with S4C, the Welsh language broadcaster. A government-commissioned independent review of S4C recently concluded and you will be responsible for delivering the review recommendations.
You will be working in a high-profile, fast-paced and demanding policy area that attracts high levels of public, media and parliamentary scrutiny on areas such as equal pay, impartiality and independence, the licence fee and Welsh devolution. You will work closely with other government departments including No 10, HM Treasury and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
