Job Title: Head of Legal and Policy
Working For: Independent Schools Council
Salary: Up to £60,000 plus generous holiday and pension contribution
The Independent Schools Council (ISC) brings together the seven leading professional associations of Heads, Governors and Bursars of independent schools, comprising more than 1,300 independent schools and 500,000 pupils. We are proud to represent some of the world’s leading schools.
We are seeking a Head of Legal and Policy to provide support and guidance for the sector across the full range of legal and policy matters including education, charity, immigration, SEND, social mobility, school partnerships, inspections, data protection, safeguarding and relevant areas of regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will also act as sole in-house counsel to ISC, providing legal support for the General Secretary, Chairman and Board.
This is a high profile and responsible position and the successful candidate will be confident promoting the sector’s interests directly with Government and other key stakeholders. Critical to our success is the ability to maintain a constructive dialogue with Government and regulators whilst being fearless in campaigning for proportionate and effective regulation.
Applicants should demonstrate a track record of impact and influence in education or a highly regulated sector. Happy working independently and as part of a small team, with the ability to apply legal skills in a common-sense and pragmatic manner, the successful candidate will have a keen interest in education.

First round interviews will be held in London on Tuesday 31 July and Wednesday 1 August. Commencement: As soon as possible, ideally with availability for handover days in August 2018.
