Job Details

This is a full-time position in the regional office of Margaret Mitchell MSP. The job title is for a Constituency Caseworker but the role also includes office administration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Dealing with enquiries from members of the public
  • Draft responses to constituents, organisations and elected officials
  • Logging all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • Ensure enquiries are dealt with sensitively and confidentially
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act & GDPR
  • Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases by liaising with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others
  • Organising and occasionally attending visits throughout the region Margaret represents
  • Organising and attending surgeries with Margaret
  • Office administration such as MSP travel expenses
  • Responding to email campaigns from constituents
  • Undertaking leaflet campaigns on local issues
  • Assist with the work of other team members as required

Essential skills:

  • Excellent telephone manner and written communication skills, with confidence interacting with people at all levels
  • Ability to display sensitivity and tact in dealing with constituents' enquiries with an ability to prioritise and gatekeep effectively
  • Strong IT skills; competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook Excel)
  • Exceptional organisational skills & eye for detail
  • Ability to work well and calmly in a high pressure environment and to tight deadlines
  • A trustworthy & discreet manner ensuring that the highest standards of confidentiality are upheld
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a busy team as well as on your own initiative independently

Desirable skills:

  • A knowledge of the Central Scotland region and local issues
  • A reasonable knowledge of key social and other policy issues: housing, planning, health, transport and welfare benefits
  • A working knowledge of parliamentary procedures
