I am looking to recruit an experienced, hard-working, dedicated and passionate Parliamentary Researcher to join my Westminster team.

The role will involve supporting me in all aspects of my work in Westminster; as a Shadow Minister for International Development, a constituency MP and the Chair of two very active APPGs.

The successful candidate should have good political knowledge, keen political awareness and be extremely trustworthy. They should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and should be able to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment. They will need to be able to respond quickly to evolving situations, to quickly prioritise tasks and to work both on their own and as part of the wider team.

The key responsibilities will be:

  • Conducting research to produce briefs for debates and speeches;
  • Overseeing two very active APPGs and liaising with their secretariats;
  • Writing letters to Ministers, NGOs, constituents and others;
  • Writing speeches, interventions, articles and blogs;
  • Dealing with Westminster-based media enquiries
  • Liaising with constituency office
  • Any other relevant tasks

This role is suitable for someone who is:

  • Able to work independently, efficiently and keep to tight deadlines;
  • Highly organised, with particular attention to detail;
  • Able to prioritise tasks and be flexible to the MP’s needs;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledgeable of the Parliamentary process and, ideally, International development;
  • Has a good knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Sympathetic to the Labour Party’s ideals and my priorities in Parliament

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
