6 Months Fixed Term Contract, 2 days per week (preferably Tuesday and Wednesday)
Steve McCabe MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Intern to assist him in his busy Westminster Office. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone looking for part-time work, who is interested in politics and looking to work in a fast-paced environment.
Main Responsibilities - the successful applicant will be expected to:
• Draft Parliamentary Questions and briefings to support Steve’s work as MP for Birmingham Selly Oak
• Research local and national issues to support the Member's work
• Prepare and edit correspondence, communications and other documents
• Draft press releases, social media posts and articles
• Communicate effectively with both internal and external contacts
• To liaise with the constituency office to progress casework and policy work through liaison with local and national bodies, government agencies and others
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
• Excellent research and writing skills reflecting attention to detail
• Effective communication and people skills
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
• Excellent time management skills
• Confidence and ability to interact effectively with members of the public, community groups and other stakeholders
• Be a team player but able to lead on tasks and undertake independent work
• Competent user of Microsoft Office
• Will be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
