Job Details

 The UK Health Alliance on Climate Change brings together Britain’s leading health institutions, representing some 600,000 health professionals, to advocate for responses to climate change that protect and promote health. The Alliance is seeking applications for a dynamic, motivated, and professional Director with excellent policy, project management, interpersonal skills, experience in strategic communications/advocacy, and a track record of building consensus and support on issues in public health/climate change.

Specific responsibilities

  • Develop/deliver strategy, coordinate policy and communications work to government, the media and health professions
  • Manage the Secretariat and its engagement with the public affairs, policy, and communications staff of Alliance Members
  • Represent the Alliance to the media and external organisations, supporting the secretariat in developing an effective network of stakeholders to help implement the Alliance’s work
  • Expand membership through the recruitment of new professional bodies, manage external fundraising
  • Report directly to the Alliance’s Executive and Council, including the monitoring and evaluation of the Alliance’s impact, and manage its governance, financial, legal and administrative responsibilities
  • Build and manage relationships with external stakeholders

An ideal applicant

  • Educated to degree level in one of public health, climate change, public policy, or related
  • Demonstrable experience working on public health and/or climate change policy
  • A strong technical understanding of, and interest in, the relationship between health and climate change
  • Experience of fundraising and developing fundraising and financial plans
  • Experience in supporting in the delivery of policy, public affairs and communications strategies
  • Experience building and managing networks and alliances of organisations and individuals
  • Significant project and staff management experience, ability to deliver complex projects to deadlines, prepared to assist outside of office hours to meet project requirements
  • Excellent editorial and writing skills, capable of producing regular written content, including policy reports and op-eds

Salary range (ideally 0.6 FTE): £40,000 – £46,000 (pro rata), with possibility of increasing to 1.0 FTE for ideal candidate

Interview/Start Dates
