The International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) is looking for a News Officer to join its communications team.

JOB DESCRIPTION: News Officer
Based in London

Role:
As a key member of the communication team, you will be responsible for searching for and writing up news stories about alcohol from across the world. You will be supported by the Head of News Analysis and IARD’s Editor in producing a daily newsletter which is sent to more than 800 people globally.

You will:
• Have a passion for writing in a simple and accessible manner
• Be inquisitive about the news and latest developments
• Be comfortable using translating tools and making sense of a story
• Have a keen eye for detail and take pride in the accuracy of your writing
• Be able to understand complex stories and simplify them for a global audience
• Be at ease with websites and different content management systems

News Officer Responsibilities:

• Writing up summaries of international news articles for the daily newsletter in a simple, concise and compelling way
• Undertaking research around stories to ensure that IARD is reflecting the situation accurately
• Giving early warning to communication colleagues and the Leadership team of any relevant news that IARD may need to react to
• Uploading news stories to the database and prepare the daily newsletter for transmission through Mailchimp
• Working with the wider communications team to update a calendar of forward events
• Undertaking any ad-hoc projects that may be required by the communications team to support delivery of IARD’s Communications Strategy
• Working as part of the UK team and supporting the CEO’s Executive Assistant to ensure the smooth running of the office, including welcoming guests, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring the tidy and professional appearance of the office

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

• Experience of analyzing complex information
• Experience of writing in a simple and accessible way and following a style guide
• Meticulous attention to detail
