Margot James is looking for a good-humoured, bright and organised Senior Executive Officer/Parliamentary Assistant to join her small team in Westminster.

The successful candidate will have experience working with senior people and have some knowledge of how Westminster works. They will be an excellent communicator, have a strong work-ethic and be willing to go above and beyond when needed to ensure the smooth functioning of the office.

Whilst this is primarily an administrative role, there will be opportunities to get involved with other aspects of Margot’s work - including policy casework, briefings and media - depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

• Managing Margot's Westminster and Constituency diaries, arranging meetings, booking rooms and ensuring travel arrangements are in order.
• Providing secretarial support to the overall team, working closely with Margot’s ministerial office when needed.
• Compiling briefings for meetings, attending and taking minutes when required.
• Responding to routine enquiries and correspondence.
• Ad-hoc research and requests.
• Organising tours of parliament for constituents.

Required skills

• Diary management skills are essential.
• Excellent communications skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn quickly and be adaptable.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Calendars is essential.
• Organisation is key, with a proven track record of prioritising tasks and delivering work on time.
• Previous parliamentary experience, or experience as a personal assistant, is desirable.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
