The role

We’re looking for an ambitious and expert Senior Press Officer, Charitable to join our high-performing PR and Celebrity team. You’ll play a lead a lead role in raising the profile of our scientific research, policy and campaigning activity and public health information – and in driving change for patients – through a combination of reactive and proactive media relations.

An exceptional writer with a keen eye for a news angle and a passion for ensuring responsible reporting, you’ll be working in a team that generates almost daily national media coverage in the papers, online and on TV and radio.

Crucially, you’ll help to ensure that the realities of breast cancer – and the key issues affecting patients, including access to treatments – remain high on the national agenda. You’ll produce succinct written materials of a very high standard to short deadlines, from press releases to broadcast briefings for spokespeople up to CEO level, as well as developing and implementing media strategies.

An excellent communicator, you’ll build relationships with key national health and science journalists – as well as with regional and trade media – and you’ll look after case studies and recruit new ones. Your inter-personal skills will also be second-to-none, enabling you to prepare spokespeople for interviews and to help organise media events such as photo calls and briefings. In addition, you’ll monitor and evaluate PR activity, participate in the team’s out-of-hours on call rota and support with team admin where required.

About you
You will have significant experience in health or science PR, including in drafting strong evidence-based press releases and securing major national coverage on medical research or healthy policy, as well as in developing and implementing impactful PR plans and responding to press enquiries.

You’ll have first-class writing skills, as well as proven experience in dealing with – and meeting the needs of – the national media on a daily basis, including print, broadcast and online journalists. Most importantly, you’ll be absolutely dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and women at risk of the disease, with a passion for the role of communications in driving change and increasing awareness.
