Job Details

Bob Seely MP is seeking a full time caseworker for his constituency office on the Isle of Wight. Although previous casework experience would be beneficial it is not essential. More important are strong organisational and Microsoft Office skills and the flexibility to work in a busy office environment. The Isle of Wight is the largest constituency in the country and this will be a demanding and rewarding role.

The successful candidate will join Bob’s constituency team dealing with constituents, resolving problems in a wide range of issues involving local and national government.

The role includes:
* Drafting letters, emails and other correspondence to provide information, advice and support to Constituents on a broad range of issues.
* Dealing with government departments, the council and other organisations to gather information to assist with resolving cases.
* Assisting Bob and other staff with campaigns and research on constituency and national issues.
* Meticulous record keeping and dealing with often confidential or sensitive information.
* Attending advice surgeries and other meetings, as necessary.
* Responding to a range of enquiries by telephone and email.
* Adhering to data protection principles and respecting confidentiality at all times.
* Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation appropriate to dealing with casework.
* Leading on policy casework which includes research and drafting of responses to constituents.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
* Strong written and oral communication skills and an excellent telephone manner.
* Competent use of IT and the ability to adapt quickly to new software.
* To be able to work with diplomacy, discretion and respect the need for strict confidentiality.
* Highly organised with the ability to manage and prioritise competing demands.
* Ability to work proactively and independently as part of a small team.
* Confidence in dealing with members of the public from a wide variety of backgrounds in a compassionate and sensitive way.
* Knowledge of key social policy issues; welfare benefits, immigration, health etc.
* Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

There will be a requirement to attend induction and occasional training and briefing days in London and other locations within the region. Travel will be paid.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
