Job Details

Southwark Council is recruiting a Cabinet Officer to support the borough’s cabinet members as they carry out their executive roles.

In this role you will work with the council’s senior politicians as they lead the council to deliver a fairer future for all. This role will give you a unique insight into how the council works, decisions are made and issues are tackled across the senior team. You will play a key role facilitating and enabling links between the Leader, cabinet members, strategic directors, and senior officers as well as community and external organisations.

The role includes a mix of portfolio and general administrative support including diary and correspondence management, policy advice, briefing and some casework administration. No two days will be the same as you handle enquiries from the public, officers, key stakeholders and politicians – all of which require a diplomatic and professional approach.

You will be politically astute and will thrive in a complex and fast-moving environment. To succeed in this role you will be adept at handling sensitive information and have a keen awareness of local government and the context in which it operates. Comfortable working with senior officers and councillors, you will be adaptable and pro-active in ensuring that the Cabinet has what they need to deliver for residents in the borough.
