Job Details

At MI5 Intelligence Officers play an essential role in keeping the country safe, which makes for one of the most challenging, stimulating and rewarding careers you can imagine. As the country faces increased threats to national security, your role as an Intelligence Officer gives you opportunity to have a tangible impact on the security of the UK.

On this programme, you could join us in areas ranging from digital intelligence and warrantry, through to legal casework, policy or analysis. You will develop your skills and confidence whilst you work in roles that directly support the intelligence capability of MI5. After passing your Foundation Investigative Training (FIT) course, you’ll be a fully qualified Intelligence Officer, ready to move into one of our core investigative roles.

You could focus on international or Northern Ireland related terrorism, espionage or hostile foreign states. You’ll set investigative strategies, make recommendations and work with colleagues and the Police to prevent threats. Beyond this you’ll be posted to a business critical role in the wider Intelligence Officer family.

An excellent communicator with impressive organisational skills, you’ll manage competing requirements effectively. You’re also a natural problem-solver, able to make sound decisions and trust your own judgement. It’s all about spotting the details, while taking a step back to see the bigger picture. You’ll also need to have (or be expecting), a 2:2 degree or higher in any discipline, or have equivalent, relevant work experience.

You’ll have a collaborative ethos, capable of building effective relationships and inspiring confidence in those you work with. While your tasks are serious, the atmosphere is open and friendly, where everyone pulls together and works towards the same goals.

We particularly welcome applications from women and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates.

To apply to MI5 you must be a born or naturalised British citizen, over 18 years of age and normally have lived in the UK for nine of the last ten years. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member, providing that they are British. They should also be made aware of the importance of discretion.
