Mary Glindon MP is seeking a part-time Senior Caseworker, working in her constituency office in Wallsend.

Your role will be to provide advice and support to Mary’s constituents, particularly relating to benefits. The successful applicant would be expected to help constituents to fill in forms relating to claiming PIP, ESA, and Universal Credit, and to provide representation at Appeal/Tribunal. General knowledge of Welfare Benefits is desirable. Applicants should have a keen interest in local and national politics along with sympathy to the values of the Labour Party. You will work alongside Mary’s full-time Caseworker and report to the Office Manager.

The successful candidate will have the following:¬¬-

Excellent knowledge of the benefits system and Tribunal representation.
Previous experience of managing and progressing casework.
Knowledge of welfare rights and housing policy or practice.
Excellent people skills - empathetic and sensitive when dealing with constituent enquiries.
Excellent writing, communication and IT skills.
Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and attention to detail.
Interest in current affairs and sympathy with Labour Party values.

The job will include:-

Benefit form filling and supporting the constituent at Appeal/Tribunal.
Attendance at surgery to interview constituents concerning their cases and issues.
Assessing casework coming in via post, email, or telephone.
Generating responses to constituents and action letters to appropriate agencies.
Assessing replies received and generating response letters to constituents.
Telephone answering and dealing with enquiries from constituents.
Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR.
Occasional evening and weekend working may be required.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
