The BBC Radio & Music Production department produces content for nine national radio stations, BBC Sounds and the World Service.

They are looking for a Trainee Content Assistant to join the production teams in Factual Radio for 12 months. On this placement, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain real experience on daily programmes such as Woman’s Hour, Front Row, and weekly programmes such as Saturday Live. They will work across all aspects of the Department’s output, gaining knowledge of how to pitch ideas, research programmes and making items for transmission.

The Trainee will learn about how the team supports their programmes with social media, web pages and the digital space and learn the skills to be able to deliver that. Throughout the placement, the successful candidate will be provided with a buddy, mentor and line manager who will enrich their learning experience and support them as they develop their skills in radio production.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • An understanding of every stage of the radio production process
  • How to develop and research programmes
  • How to pitch programme ideas
  • Management of live studio production and outside broadcast events
  • Editing audio and making items for transmission
  • Writing content for webpages and social media
  • Writing briefs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Passion for content across the areas of factual radio
  • Interested in pursuing a career in radio broadcasting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of BBC Radio Production’s programmes
  • Demonstrable interest in News / Current Affairs
  • Brimming with ideas, with a good understanding of what makes engaging listening
  • Enthusiasm for radio and an appreciation of how audiences use digital and other platforms
  • Enthusiastic approach to work and always willing to try new things
