The BEIC is an inter-professional organisation of 11 trade associations in the UK, which cover all aspects of the egg industry – breeding, hatching, rearing, laying, packing, egg processing and marketing.

Set up in 1986, the principal function of the BEIC is to represent the interests of its Members (the UK egg industry) in discussions with Government, MPs, the European Commission, European Parliament, and other bodies. The British Egg Information Service (BEIS) was set up by the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) to provide information and answer questions about eggs, as well as to promote the benefits of Lion eggs. BEIC also finances research and development. BEIC is recognised by Government and Parliament as the representative voice of the UK egg industry.

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

To contribute to the development and promotion of BEIC policies and to promote and communicate such policies to legislators and other policy makers.

KEY CHALLENGES

To develop and maintain a good working knowledge of the egg industry and current issues affecting the industry.
To promote and communicate the policies of the BEIC to legislators and other policy makers.
To provide an effective support role to the Chief Executive.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

To develop and maintain regular communication with legislators and policy makers.
To contribute to the development, presentation and prosecution of BEIC policies.
To develop and maintain a good working knowledge of the egg industry and of current issues affecting the industry.
To contribute to the input of BEIC publications and websites.
To communicate, where appropriate, with individual Members on egg industry matters.
To professionally and responsibly represent the BEIC at all times.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

This challenging role requires an individual with the following key skills:

Educated to degree level
Experience in lobbying - working in Parliament and in public affairs in a consultancy or in-house role would be a big advantage
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a small team
Ability to work on own initiative
Provide a high level of attention to detail
Good knowledge of Microsoft software
