The Brussels office of the three Law Societies (England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) represents the interests of the solicitors’ professions to the EU institutions as well as providing related services to our members. We are committed to being a leading voice on the best practice of law and law reform at European level.

The EU Policy Adviser role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team responsible for analysing and monitoring EU developments by seeking improvements to law, practice and procedure and lobbying for change. As EU Policy Adviser for internal market issues, you will be required to analyse and provide expert policy advice on the relevant EU institutional or substantive law developments and draft policy positions together with specialist Committees and policy advisers in the UK. You will have the opportunity to represent externally the interests of the Law Societies and in developing relations to with other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate should possess:

Degree level or equivalent level of education.
Wide knowledge of institutional EU law, policy making and procedures, and knowledge of an area of substantive EU law.
Significant experience working in the field of EU policy in one of the following: private practice; within the EU institutions; lobby group; policy related employment or other relevant employment.
The ability to analyse and understand the policy implications of EU initiatives and legislative proposals.
The ability to research and draft policy papers and to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.
Fluent English and French or German and knowledge of other EU languages an asset.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including tact and diplomacy, in dealing with a wide range of individuals and building good networks of contacts.
The ability to work independently and under pressure to tight deadlines. Good personal organisational skills.
The ability to work as part of a team.
Knowledge of the legal profession and the UK Law Societies.
