Louise Haigh MP is looking for a Senior Caseworker to work full-time in the constituency office. The post is fixed term for six months maternity leave. You will be part of the constituency team reporting to the office manager.

Highly organised and committed to providing support for a busy MP in a fast moving environment with a high volume of casework. A focus on the needs of constituents to provide information, advice and support on a range of housing, welfare, immigration, health and other issues, resolving problems by liaison with government agencies and other organisations.

Job description

  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret data.
  • Attend surgeries, tribunals and meetings.
  • Develop knowledge in specialist areas.
  • Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure identified actions are taken.
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with GPDR.
  • Gather relevant information to resolve or progress cases.
  • Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.
  • Manage and progress portfolio of casework appropriately.
  • Provide briefings for the Member.
  • Research local, regional or national issues to support the Member’s work.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups.
  • Supervise other members of staff.

Person Specification

  • Experience of handling casework, in an MP’s office, the civil service, or a third sector organisation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with a range of people by telephone and in writing - able to draft correspondence clearly with attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for advice work and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritise and work in a busy office.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team.
  • Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Good IT skills and experience of a casework management system or similar database.
  • Good personal organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience of supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • You must have a commitment to Labour Party values.

Desirable

  • Experience of work in a political or representative environment.
  • A knowledge and understanding of Parliament and a grasp of current, political issues.
