Frank Field MP is seeking to appoint a Caseworker. The role, based in Frank’s House of Commons office, will primarily involve handling Frank’s constituency casework. A key requirement of the role is to offer a timely, compassionate, and effective service for the people of Birkenhead, while producing regular reports to help guide Frank’s campaigns – on benefits, housing, and debt, for example, as well as any other issues emerging from the constituency caseload.

Job Description

  • Ensure all casework correspondence is processed and responded to, in an appropriate manner, on the same day it is received
  • Gather relevant information to help resolve cases, draft and follow up correspondence to the relevant agencies, and draft responses to Frank’s constituents
  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports to help bring about changes in policy
  • Attend advice surgeries and other meetings as appropriate
  • Keep a record of all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • Liaise with stakeholders when necessary, both to deliver an even more effective service as well as to research, develop, progress and promote campaigns
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
  • Contribute to the day-to-day running of a small but busy office, including ad-hoc admin tasks

Person Specification

  • Educated up to degree level, with both a strong academic record and casework skills
  • Ability to work quickly and flexibly, cope with a heavy workload, and complete tasks in a timely way
  • Committed to serving the people of Birkenhead
  • Specialist knowledge of benefits and tax credits, as well as the Tribunals system
  • Ability to absorb quickly new concepts and information, and to act on this with initiative and imagination
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to remain discreet and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Excellent IT skills
