We are looking to recruit a Media and PR Manager based at our site in London office in Westminster. With this role you would become part of the UK’s largest provider of genuinely free independent debt advice and managed solutions.

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for managing the charity’s media relations operations in order to help raise awareness of the charity and its services in the media across the UK and in individual devolved nations and regions; and to achieve influential media coverage of the charity’s campaigning work in support of meaningful policy change to improve the lives of people affected by debt.

Key accountabilities

  • Strategic planning and day-to-day management of the press office, including out-of-hours cover
  • Manage direct reports (and potentially freelance staff), facilitating and supporting their development to progress delivery of the charity’s key objectives
  • Devise and implement creative and targeted media strategies across both traditional and social media in support of the charity’s influencing and PR objectives, working in close collaboration with other relevant teams (eg policy, public affairs, marketing, digital, internal communications, strategic partnerships, charity development) on integrated communications activities
  • Be responsible for overseeing the media contingency communications plan, ensuring effective strategies and mechanisms are in place to mitigate potential reputational damage to the charity

Experience and knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of both traditional and social media
  • Knowledge of press office systems e.g. media monitoring and evaluation and contact database tools
  • Previous experience of integrating case studies/storytelling into media work
  • Previous experience of successful media relations relating to sensitive and complex information
  • Familiarity with financial services sector helpful but not essential
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Previous line management experience

  • Strong communication, leadership and motivational skills
  • Clear evidence of strong writing abilities
  • Capable of making a significant contribution to effective working relationships
